Freedom From My Chronic Pain
by Alisha Diaz
Pain. No one likes that word. Living with it is a nightmare. Many people suffer from chronic pain or has a loved one who does. They or you are often searching for relief. I have found answers for myself in the last few years, and I hope you are able to find yours. Let me tell you my story, and maybe I can be a help to you or someone else.
In 5th grade I was diagnosed with scoliosis. It was not severe, and there wasn't much we could do about it at the same. That is what we thought anyway. I would get headaches every once is a while as a child. Sometimes they were migraines, and I had intolerable pain. I would just take those chewable children's Tylenol and try to sleep it off. When I became a pre-teen I started having headaches and migraines almost every day. I even started missing school because of it. In high school I had a huge problem. I had constant pain in my legs, back, and I was still getting those headaches. I was constantly taking Advil, though I know now that I was taking way too much. I had blood tests, x-rays, physical therapy, and ultrasounds. Since doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me, they diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. That is just a fancy word for, "The patient has chronic pain, and we can't figure out what it is." The answer to many of my problems came soon after that.
I started seeing a chiropractor. I had subluxations in my neck that were affecting my nerves and my internal organs. I started going 3 times a week, then 2 times a week, and then finally 1 time a week. It was a very slow process, but I did start getting relief. After highschool, I stopped going, because I went away for college. That was a HUGE mistake. I did not have a car since I didn't really need one at the large private college I was going to had everything I thought I needed. My back and headaches got so bad. I even lost the ability to move my neck. Keep in mind I was about 20 at the time. Have you ever heard of a young and healthy 20 year old who couldn't move her neck? It was miserable. My loving parents did what they had to do. They got me a tiny used car so I could start going to the chiropractor during college. Woohoo!!! That changed my life! I was able to start going regularly again, and I still do to this day!
This does not mean that I don't have a bad day once in a while. In my "old age" of 26, I have learned some tips and tricks that help me when I have one of those bad days. Ice, ice baby! I use ice and ice packs on my neck when I have a bad headache. Thankfully I do not really get migraines anymore. I also suffer from intense cramps, because I have endometriosis. I use Past Tense essential oils by Doterra on my stomach when Advil isn't helping. (I take Advil responsibly these days.) Past Tense is also for back, knee, and other body pains. I recommend having it on hand to all my friends. A few of them have tried it, and now they love using it as well. It really works!
Here are some of the products I use to help me on my bad days (posted below). Do you suffer from chronic pain? Have you tried going to a chiropractor? I highly reccomend getting an evauation from them, and I hope they are able to help you.
